Lobe Pumps

They are used in the transfer of solid particles and high viscosity fluids with their body structures made of AISI304 or AISI316 stainless steel material. These pumps, which transfer fluid through the movement of the lobes, are food (chocolate, dough), beverage, medicine, paper,

What Is Lobe Pump?

They are devices that provide transfer between substances with liquid liquids that are solid parts and high viscosity. Thanks to its positive displacement feature, another name for these products, which are used in the transfer of low, medium and high viscosity fluids without any problems, is lobe pumps. The pumps, which are used for the transfer of fluids, viscous or particles containing particles and needed in many areas of the industry, are divided into many different models. There are different pump designs according to the purpose of use, the liquid properties to be transferred and the usage environment. Kenfle lobe pumps are used in many specific applications such as food, beverage, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, paper industry and so on. Lobe pumps, which are the most ideal pump model for high viscosity fluids, give successful results when used in the appropriate liquid and correct temperature range. It is possible to obtain very hygienic solutions in food applications.

What Is The Working Principle of Lobe Pump?

Lobe pumps it shows similar characteristics with gear pumps. However, there are great differences in terms of structural features and the type of liquid used together. Inside the pump, there are rotors, which are generally similar to the gear, and two or three protrusions, which are called lobes. In some applications, the use of rotors with a butterfly design is also seen. If we look at the working principle of the lobe pump;

We move the lobes by starting the pump, and a volume that expands between the lobes and the pump body is formed. Thus, the liquid to be pumped fills this gap.

As a result of the movement of the lobes, the liquid moves from the pump inlet to its exit without passing through the lobes. In the meantime, the correct positioning of the lobes and the correct time movement of the lobes are prevented from contacting each other.

The liquid to be pumped is directed to the pump outlet and separated from the pump with lobe movements.

What Are The Lobe Pump Models?

Lobe pumps can be produced in the following ways, depending on the type of use:

–        Triple Lobe (Standard)

–       Dual lobe

–       Butterfly (bat) winged lobe

–        One-winged lobe

–       Teeded lobe

Determining which type of lobe is better for an application requires analyzing the solid size, liquid viscosity and tolerance of flow vibration. For example While a single-winged lobe or butterfly winged lobe is suitable for the transfer of a strawberry granular jam, triple lobes are preferred for the transfer of products with heavy viscosity such as honey, wax and glucose.

What Are The Technical Specifications of Lobe Pumps?

When choosing a Kenfle lobe pumps, AISI 316L stainless steel, titanium and Hatelloy material alternatives

Kenfle lobe pumps offers a variety of options for semi-hygienic, hygienic, super hygienic and ultra-supper hygienic series.

1” – 8” Input-output connections are Lobe pump connection types.

Seamless operation with fluids at -40°C – +200°C

Transfer of medium and high viscosity fluids (max. 1,000.00 MPas

Easy transport of adhesive, abrasive or surface sensitive fluids is the most important feature of the lobe pump.

Mechanical seal, washed mechanical seal, double mechanical seal, single and double seal sealing

Heat jacket, by-pass valve, aseptic, rectangular suction etc. Options can be selected according to the process in lobe pumps.

What Are The Materials Used In Lobe Pumps?

All shafts are made of AISI 304L or AISI 316L stainless steel. The lobes are made of high quality AISI 304L or AISI 316L extruded bar or special stainless steel non-shrinking alloy. The body of the pump is also made of AISI 304L or AISI 316L stainless steel.

What Are The Additional Options in Kenfle Lobe pumps?

Heating Jacket

Heat jacketed lobe pumps are suitable for easy-to-harden products. A thermal jacket is used to maintain the desired heat. With the heat of the thermal jacket, the product is kept at the targeted temperature and its fluidity is increased.

Cartridge Application

When the pump transfers products that can crystallize or release solid deposits,

The supplied mechanical seals should be cleaned with flushing water or a compatible liquid under low pressure. This mechanism can also be used to dissipate heat or prevent dry running.

There is a fixed room around the mechanical seal to ensure the sealing of the cartridge.

If the washing liquid is aggressive, dangerous or polluting, and the pressure is higher than the working or pumped fluid, it is possible to install a double cartridge mechanical seal.

Inverter

The speed of the lobe pump can be adjusted via the inverter connected to the electric motor. Thus, the desired amount of product is transferred in the desired time and in the desired amount. In addition, in high-speed works, soft start is achieved by slowly transitioning from low rpm to high rpm with the inverter, and this ensures that the pump has a much longer life.
